In a letter dated January 13, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, Guzape District, Abuja, the law firm said Danagogo would be unable to honour the scheduled appearance fixed for Thursday, January 15, 2026, because he was out of town.

A Port Harcourt-based law firm, Danagogo, Oputa & Associates, has written to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force, seeking the rescheduling of an invitation extended to its principal partner and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Tammy Wenike Danagogo, amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a letter dated January 13, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, Guzape District, Abuja, the law firm said Danagogo would be unable to honour the scheduled appearance fixed for Thursday, January 15, 2026, because he was out of town.

The invitation, referenced CR: 3000/FID/IRT/ABJ/ADM/VOL. 9/57, was reportedly served on the firm on Monday evening at about 6:00pm.

"The attention of our Chief Dr. T. W. Danagogo has been drawn to your letter under reference after your service on us yesterday at about 18:00 hours and upon reaching our Chief Dr. T. W. Danagogo we regret to inform you that he is out of town and may not be available at your slated Thursday 15th January 2026 appointment,” the letter stated.

The firm consequently appealed to the police to shift the appointment to Monday, January 26, 2026, to enable its principal partner to appear for questioning.

"Consequently, we crave your kind indulgence to have the appointment re-scheduled for Monday the 26th day of January 2026 for the interview,” the letter added.

The correspondence was signed by Sir I. O. Nwodoh, Esq., an associate of Danagogo, Oputa & Associates.

The police invitation is connected to an investigation into a leaked phone conversation allegedly linked to a plot to assassinate Wike. In a separate invitation letter dated January 9 and issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, Danagogo was directed to appear in person at the IRT complex in Guzape District, Abuja.

The letter, obtained by SaharaReporters, instructed him to report at 10:00am on Thursday, January 15, at the IRT facility located around the Old Abattoir area, close to Guzape Junction, Abuja, and to report to CSP Hillary Ugwuanyi and his team upon arrival.

“This office is inviting you over an ongoing investigation, to appear in person to shed light on some information,” the letter stated.

The police described the invitation as a “fact-finding exercise in the interest of justice and fairness,” citing Section 53(2)(c) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, as the legal basis for the summons.

Although the invitation letter did not expressly mention Wike or the alleged plot, sources familiar with the investigation told SaharaReporters that the summons is linked to a viral audio recording purportedly discussing a plan to eliminate the FCT minister, a long-time political rival of Danagogo and a key figure in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Danagogo is an ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and served as SSG before the deepening rift between Fubara and Wike.

SaharaReporters previously reported that a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, had been arrested in connection with the alleged assassination plot.

Security sources disclosed that operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team arrested Gbeneol, a medical doctor and founder of Life Forte Chapel Church in Port Harcourt, following the interception of a phone conversation allegedly between him and Danagogo.

According to the sources, the recorded conversation allegedly involved discussions about bringing in Israeli nationals to carry out the assassination of the FCT minister, with plans to approach Governor Fubara for funding.

“The content of the call was considered a grave national security threat,” a senior security source told SaharaReporters. “That was what triggered the immediate action by the IRT.”

Dr. Gbeneol has reportedly been in detention for about two weeks, while investigations continue. Security sources also claimed that efforts were ongoing to secure Danagogo’s appearance, amid allegations that he had gone underground since the matter became public.

Confirming developments in the case, the Nigeria Police Force said a suspect had been arrested and was in custody.

“He is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing,” Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, told SaharaReporters last week, declining to disclose further details.
