According to the budget description, the money is meant for the “Procurement of brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep for the Director General/CEO of the Commission”.

Earlier, in a related development, a SaharaReporters' review of Nigeria’s 2026 approved budget showed that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation plans to spend N1.1 billion on an SGF annex meant to serve as quarters for presidential aides.

This is in addition to another N1.2 billion earmarked for the purchase of jeeps and other luxury vehicles.

The allocation is intended for the procurement of Toyota jeeps, saloon cars, and pick-up double-cabin vehicles.

In another development, a SaharaReporters' review of the 2026 budget also showed that a total sum of N3.3 billion is planned to be spent on the purchase and replacement of vehicles by the Bola Tinubu-led Presidency.

According to the budget document, a sum of N2.5 billion is earmarked for the purchase of State House operational vehicles.

Further review shows that N758 million is planned for the replacement of SUV vehicles.

Another N115 million is allocated for the purchase of tyres for bullet-proof vehicles, plain cars, CCU vehicles, platform trucks, jeeps, ambulances, and other utility and operational vehicles.

Data on how much was spent by the Tinubu-led Nigerian Presidency on tyres in 2025 could not be ascertained as of the time of this report due to the government’s failure to publish comprehensive expenditure data.

However, details in the 2025 budget document show that N3.6 billion was budgeted for the purchase of operational vehicles for the State House, while another N1 billion was allocated for the replacement of SUV vehicles.

This continued expenditure on SUVs and State House operations comes amid growing calls for prudence in the management of government resources.

In 2024, a review of the Govspend public payments portal by SaharaReporters revealed significant tyre-related expenditures by the President Bola Tinubu-led Presidency.

It was found that N366 million was spent on tyres over a span of three days, with payments made on May 21, 2024, June 22, 2023, and June 24, 2023.
