Videos circulating online and reviewed by SaharaReporters show the bus with shattered windows and a wrecked front section, reportedly the result of the assault by Remo Stars fans.

Irate supporters of Remo Stars on Wednesday attacked the team bus of Ikorodu City following their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 20 encounter in Ogun State, damaging the vehicle severely.

Videos circulating online and reviewed by SaharaReporters show the bus with shattered windows and a wrecked front section, reportedly the result of the assault by Remo Stars fans.

The Matchday 20 fixture between Remo Stars and Ikorodu City ended 1–0 in favour of Remo Stars. However, SaharaReporters understands from comments circulating online that the attack on Ikorodu City after the game was seen by some as “a retaliation and a revenge.”

In one of the videos, voices could be heard narrating the incident, saying: “See how they were chasing us. Those are fans of Remo Stars chasing us. See the weapons they have arranged for us. See what Remo Stars did. They broke the glass of our bus.”

SaharaReporters gathered that a similar incident had earlier occurred in Lagos at Ikorodu City’s home ground, where Remo Stars players alleged that they were assaulted by Ikorodu City supporters.

The incident has continued to generate reactions online, with football fans trading blame over past clashes between both sides. Reacting to the video, a netizen identified as Buka Naira said: “Na una start am nah… Last season and this season for una home… Dey slap Remo coach and assistant and beat some fans (You started it. Last season and again this season at your home ground, you slapped the Remo coach and his assistant and assaulted some fans).”

Another netizen, Spicy070, also wrote: “When you nah collect people phone at lkorodu last year you nah no know say them go do their own back (When you seized people’s phones in Ikorodu last year, you should have known they would retaliate).”

As of the time of filing this report, neither the NPFL authorities nor officials of Remo Stars and Ikorodu City have issued an official response to the incident.

SaharaReporters previously reported a series of violent incidents in the Nigerian football league.

One of the most recent occurred in October 2025 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, where chaos erupted after Shooting Stars of Ibadan scored a dramatic 94th‑minute equaliser to secure a 1–1 draw against Kano Pillars in a Matchday 8 NPFL fixture.

Moments after the goal, enraged home supporters stormed the pitch, attacking the referee, match officials, and Shooting Stars players. Security operatives fired teargas in a desperate attempt to restore order.

Images and video footage obtained by SaharaReporters showed dozens of fans armed with sticks and stones breaking through security barriers and chasing officials into the tunnel.

Eyewitnesses reported that several referees and players narrowly escaped lynching.

“It was total confusion. Once Shooting Stars scored, the fans lost control. They jumped the barriers, ran into the pitch, and started chasing the referee. Security had to fire teargas to push them back,” a journalist who witnessed the attack told SaharaReporters at the time.
