Operatives of a police-led joint security team attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata, in Anambra State have taken into protective custody a Nigerian man based in South Africa who was abducted earlier this month in Anambra State.
The victim was found in the early hours of Wednesday during a routine visibility patrol around the Isulo axis of Orumba South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the man, a native of Obinagu–Isikweachi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, was kidnapped on January 1, 2026, from his hometown by six armed men who reportedly wore face masks.
The abductors, according to the police, demanded a ransom of ₦40 million from his wife and relatives.
The victim told security operatives that he managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den before running into the joint patrol team, which immediately took him into protective custody.
After being properly debriefed, he was reunited with his family.
The police disclosed that investigators are already acting on intelligence provided by the victim to locate and dismantle the criminal hideout and arrest members of the gang responsible for the abduction.
The command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing and assured residents that efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes would be intensified.
The command added that further developments on the case would be communicated to the public.
