The Central East Division Police said the incident occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026, when officers responded to reports of an armed person at a residence in the area of Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.
The Canadian police have appealed for public cooperation following the arrest of a Nigerian man, Nnamdi Enunwa, in connection with an alleged stabbing incident involving his roommate in Oshawa, Ontario.
The Central East Division Police said the incident occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026, when officers responded to reports of an armed person at a residence in the area of Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.
According to police, residents in the neighbourhood alerted authorities after an altercation reportedly escalated into violence.
Upon arrival, officers found both the suspect and the victim at the scene.
“Officers arrived on scene and located both the suspect and the victim.
"The suspect was arrested and the victim was transported to a local-area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was taken into custody without incident,’’ the police said in a statement.
Mr Enunwa, 38, was immediately arrested, while his roommate, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.
The Central East Division Police stated that Mr Enunwa is currently being held for a bail hearing and has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possessing a weapon to commit a criminal offence.
The police emphasised that the allegations against the suspect are based on ongoing investigations and have not yet been tested in a court of law.
In its statement, the Central East Division Police urged members of the public who may have information relevant to the case to assist investigators. Anyone with useful information was asked to contact Det. Baldini of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch.
The police also encouraged anonymous tips, stating that information could be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers or online.
The statement noted that tipsters “might be eligible for a cash reward.”
The arrest comes amid heightened attention to violent incidents involving foreign nationals in Canada, following a recent case in which an Indian student was stabbed to death by a Nigerian student, Babatunde Afuwape.
The police said investigations into the Oshawa incident are ongoing.
