The police confirmed that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, had instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out the immediate arrest of the gang.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended six suspected armed robbers allegedly responsible for a string of violent crimes targeting nightclubs and recreational centres across Abuja.
The FCT Police Command, Abuja, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced that on Friday, January 17, 2026, at about 5:45 p.m., an operation was launched following credible intelligence received by the Commissioner of Police.
The police confirmed that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, had instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out the immediate arrest of the gang.
Following the directive, SCID launched a targeted operation to apprehend the suspects.
“Consequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, DCP Aliyu Abubakar, deployed a discreet intelligence-led operation led by ACP Victor Godfrey, the Commander, Scorpion Squad,” the statement said.
The police said the team located the gang’s hideout at Dakwa, Dei-Dei area of the FCT and arrested them while they were planning a fresh attack.
The suspects were listed as Suleiman Magaji (25), Abdullahi Abubakar (20), Abubakar Shitu ‘M’ (25), Sani Ibrahim (17), Rabiu Dahiru (19) and Ahmen Abdullahi (26).
The police said preliminary investigations linked the suspects to several armed robbery incidents, including a recent robbery at Crystal Lounge, Wuse II.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are responsible for several armed robbery incidents within the FCT, including a recent robbery at Crystal Lounge, Wuse II, where a hotel guest was dispossessed of gold jewellery valued at approximately Fifteen Million Naira (₦15,000,000). The stolen items were reportedly sold by the suspects for the sum of One Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦1.2 million),” it said.
During the operation, the police said several exhibits were recovered. They were listed as “one black toy gun, local charms, long and short knives and forty-two (42) bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis-sativa.”
The police said the suspects and exhibits are in custody, adding that the suspects will be charged after investigations.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., commended the officers for their professionalism and gallantry. He also appreciated members of the public for the timely and useful information that led to the successful arrest of the suspects,” the statement said.
The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities using the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
The police further said they will continue to address crime in the territory, with the support of the public.
