Police Identify Victim’s Nephew As Lead Suspect In Kano Attack That Killed Housewife, Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a close relative of the deceased, over the shocking murder of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis.

Police sources confirmed that the prime suspect, Umar Auwalu, a 23-year-old nephew of the slain woman, allegedly confessed to masterminding the killings, sending shockwaves across the ancient city already grappling with rising violent crime.

The arrests followed a late-night intelligence-driven operation carried out between Friday night and early Saturday morning on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and supervised by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Also arrested are Isyaku Yakubu, popularly known as “Chebe”, 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also called “Wawo”, 21, both residents of Kano.

According to police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the main suspect not only admitted his role in the family massacre but also reportedly confessed to involvement in other violent killings across parts of Kano in recent times.

Security operatives recovered several items from the suspects, including bloodstained clothing, mobile phones belonging to the deceased, weapons, and cash suspected to have been taken from the crime scene.

The police say investigations are ongoing as authorities move to unravel the full extent of the suspects’ activities, while assuring residents that those responsible will be brought to justice.
