The arrest of the suspect was announced on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the untimely death of the 22-year-old Afrofuji musician, Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The arrest of the suspect was announced on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
Babaseyi, who said the suspect is currently in police custody, also noted that the police have commenced investigations into the musician’s death, and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section.
“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy,” the police spokesperson said in a terse statement on Monday.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement added.
SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that Adeshina died at the age of 22 under unclear circumstances.
Following the announcement of his death, a post previously shared by the singer on social media resurfaced and has since gone viral.
In the post, Destiny Boy appeared to reflect on ambition, success, and mortality, writing, "Either I make this money, or I die young, money must be made.”
A video seen by SaharaReporters and published by Kwara Eaglet showed the late musician’s body being transported on a bus to a location that had yet to be identified.
In the video, it was stated that he vomited an unknown substance, although no official explanation has been provided regarding what led to his condition or eventual death.
In November 2024, Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Announcing the birth at the time, the singer expressed gratitude, writing, “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son.”
The late musician began his journey in the entertainment industry at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State.
He initially worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji artist Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, a role that helped shape his musical direction and exposure within the Fuji music scene.
He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which quickly gained traction and went viral on social media.
