The charges are now pending before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, and are predicated on allegations that the blogger used various internet-enabled platforms to publish false accusations against the Ogun State Government and to allegedly engage in sustained online bullying of the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.
The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count criminal charge against a popular internet blogger, Adetoun Onajobi, widely known across multiple social media platforms by her handle, @justadetoun, over allegations bordering on cybercrime, false information, and obstruction of justice.
The police described her alleged actions as a violation of relevant provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the suspect, Adetoun Onajobi (female), has in recent times come under police investigation following complaints arising from her online activities.
The police disclosed that on January 2, 2026, the Ogun State Police Command formally invited Onajobi for an interview.
The invitation, the Command said, was intended to afford her the opportunity to respond to allegations connected to her alleged online conduct, particularly claims of cyberbullying directed at the Governor of Ogun State.
However, rather than honour the invitation, the suspect, through her legal counsel, reportedly wrote to the police claiming that she was medically indisposed and therefore unable to attend the scheduled meeting.
The report outlined what were described as several serious medical challenges allegedly suffered by Onajobi and detailed efforts said to have been made to treat and stabilise her condition.
The Police Command said that doubts over the authenticity of the medical report prompted discreet investigations.
According to DSP Babaseyi, those investigations later confirmed that the claims contained in the medical document were false.
Following this discovery, the police arrested the doctor whose name appeared on the medical report.
During interrogation, the doctor allegedly confessed that the entire medical report was fabricated. The police said the doctor admitted that the document was a ruse, prepared at the direction of Adetoun Onajobi during a phone conversation between them, a conversation which was allegedly facilitated by the blogger’s lawyer.
Consequent upon this revelation, the doctor was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court, where he is facing charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.
Meanwhile, the police said Adetoun Onajobi has remained evasive and has consistently rebuffed every invitation extended to her by the Command. Her current whereabouts, according to the police, are unknown.
“The suspect has continued to evade arrest, and all efforts to secure her voluntary appearance have so far proved abortive,” the statement said.
Despite this, the Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour.
DSP Babaseyi noted that the Command remains resolute in tackling all forms of crime brought to its attention, whether violent, white-collar, or digital in nature, while also ensuring full respect for the constitutional rights of all persons involved.
The police, however, emphasised that while freedom of expression is constitutionally guaranteed, such rights are not absolute.
“Constitutionally protected activities such as free speech have lawful limits and do not grant immunity from criminal conduct,” the Command stated.
The police further revealed that investigations are ongoing and that other suspects connected to the alleged dissemination of false information are currently being trailed.
The Command accused Onajobi of deploying false information in a bid to obstruct police investigations and undermine the administration of justice.
In addition, the police said that having reneged on her prior undertaking to honour police invitations, the Command will exhaust all lawful means available to apprehend Adetoun Onajobi and produce her before the Federal High Court to answer to the six-count charge already filed against her.
