The Minister of Interior, popularly known as BTO, was seen in a popular video shouting at Immigration Officials over delays on the issuances of passports. The Minister was also seen interviewing applicants and exemplifying some populist antics.
BTO is simply parading what Yorubas calls "Karimi" method of showing workings. If not, we have all been deafened overtime with the superficial performances of the same Interior Minister as media hypes show that he is really performing.
But the video yesterday has exposed the obvious; BTO is just another of the Naija ministers working more on paper while also pursuing policies that enrich their personal interests and those of their bosses. Plenty of questions linger on for answers if the Interior Minister is really working for the good of the people.
First, more than five (5) agencies are under Minster BTO, but why is he only visible in Immigrations? It is clear that after Customs, Immigration is the security agency that generates most money to the government purses. That's why Minister BTO has abandoned the Correctional (Prison) Services; that Civil Defence; National Identity Management Commission (NIMC;) and the Fire Services.
Look at the Fire Services for instance, there are several incidents of fire tragedies that have led to the death of citizens and the losses of several properties. The Fire Services are very inefficient. But BTO only cares about Immigration where the money comes out.
Also, if BTO really loves Nigerians as he shows in his public dramas, why is it that Passport money has increased three times under his tenure as Minister of Interior?! How come the passport of #35k is now #105k?
Giving excuses of easing the processes of getting passports, the Minister of Interior has introduced more than three platforms for payments, and these platforms bill Nigerians in thousands. Before, the application platforms charged just about #500, but none of the ones imposed by Minister BTO charges less than #4000.
It must be noted that Minister BTO is also planning to centralize Passport production and impose costlier fees on citizens to pay for courier services to get the passports. While it is easier for Citizens to get passports at their conveniences, people should not be forced to pay higher levies through the insensitive and anti-economical centralization. If passports are produced in decentralized offices, it becomes cheaper and faster to get and also pay the Courier services!
Let me finally say that all the other agencies under the Minister of Interior are so epileptic to the point that they affect the lives of average Nigerians. The NSCDC (Civil Defence) for instance is not constitutionally empowered to carry out some legal functions. Our jamboree-loving Minister does not care to resolve the legal milieu. There is a dire need to advance and improve the Fire Services all over the country and stop the needless tragedies of losses of lives and properties all over the country.
The Tinubu regime is itself a joke when it comes to the responsibilities to the people. The only thing the crooked regime takes serious is milking the masses dry through taxation and also making goods and services very costly. That Minister BTO is also towing the same method of taxing the immigrants while running jamborees as efficiencies, is a joke Nigerians must resist!!
