The incident reportedly occurred in Bama Local Government Area of the state.
In a troubling abuse of authority, operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Borno State were captured on video violently assaulting a young man accused of insulting their commander.
The incident reportedly occurred in Bama Local Government Area of the state.
In the footage, the victim is seen beaten with whips by CJTF operatives, while he repeatedly pleads for mercy and insists he never insulted the commander or any member of the task force.
“I didn’t insult him… I swear I didn’t insult anyone,” the victim is heard saying amid sobs. “Please, for God’s sake, leave me alone.”
Despite his pleas, the operatives continue the assault, ignoring his repeated claims of innocence. At one point, the victim appears overwhelmed by pain, shouting, “I didn’t do anything wrong. Please stop beating me.”
The video further shows another victim restrained in a degrading posture, with his head and legs forced against a wall. He was also whipped by the operatives. The reason for his mistreatment remains unclear.
The shocking scenes underscore a growing culture of impunity among the CJTF, a civilian vigilante group empowered to support security agencies in the fight against insurgency.
