SaharaReporters gathered that the armed men, believed to be bandits operating in the Katsina South axis, moved to the Gurbi communities on Friday morning, shooting sporadically.

However, details of casualties or abductions were not immediately clear as of the time of filing this report.

A Katsina-based security expert, Mallam Bakatsine, confirmed the incident on Friday, warning residents and authorities about the renewed threat in the area.

According to Bakatsine, the latest development highlights the worsening security situation in Katsina South Senatorial District.

“The recent wave of attacks in Katsina South Senatorial District, especially in Kankara, Funtua, Faskari and Dandume Local Government Areas, despite the existing peace deal with bandits, needs full government attention,” the security alert stated.

Katsina State has for years been one of the epicentres of banditry in the North-West, with armed groups carrying out attacks on rural communities, killing residents, kidnapping for ransom, and rustling livestock.

Several communities across the state have been repeatedly displaced due to persistent insecurity.

Despite claims by authorities of peace deals and ongoing military and security operations, residents say attacks have continued, particularly in remote and rural areas where security presence is limited.
