In a related development, SaharaReporters reported on Tuesday that a raging fire gut one-storey commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street in the heart of Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, destroying computers and accessories worth millions of naira.

It was learnt that the inferno, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, affected a building largely used by dealers in computers and related accessories, further compounding fears over recurring fire incidents in the nation’s biggest technology hub.

According to a preliminary incident report issued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), distress calls were received via the 767/112 toll-free emergency lines at about 1:55am, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

LASEMA in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu asserted that response team arrived at the scene around 2:15am, where they encountered active flames and thick smoke billowing from the commercial structure, an indication of intense combustion already taking place.
