In the petition, the lawmaker accused the operator of a social media platform known as Ajegunle Mouthpiece, on TikTok, of publishing false and defamatory content against his person.
A member of the House of Representatives, Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over what he described as a series of "malicious, misleading, and damaging online publications" allegedly capable of causing a breach of peace in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Lagos State.
The petition, dated January 24, 2026, was addressed to the Divisional Police Officer of the Ajeromi Division, Lagos State.
In the petition, the lawmaker accused the operator of a social media platform known as Ajegunle Mouthpiece, on TikTok, of publishing false and defamatory content against his person.
“My attention has been drawn to a series of online publication disseminated by the operator of an online social media platform known as "Ajegunle Mouthpiece" using the handle @ajegu niemouthpiece1 on TikTok.
“The said publications are false, misleading, and damaging and appear calculated to harass and possibly extort me,” the petition read.
“The content of these publications can cause breach of public peace within Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Lagos State, if not urgently addressed.”
Paul, who represents Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency and is a member of the House Committee on Finance, claimed that the online publications were deliberately calculated to injure his reputation, mislead the public, and undermine confidence in his public office, while also posing a risk to public peace within the constituency.
According to the lawmaker, the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece had earlier circulated allegations against him, which were later disproved with verifiable facts provided by his media aide.
“Prior to this petition, the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece began publishing and broadcasting material containing false, malicious, and misleading statements against my person.
“These materials were widely circulated to members of the public and were calculated to injure my reputation, mislead the public, and undermine public confidence in my person.”
He claimed that the individual subsequently withdrew the claims, issued an apology, and published content commending his activities and contributions.
However, Paul alleged that the same individual later sought personal engagement with him, during which his conduct and communications suggested an attempt to obtain financial inducement in exchange for favourable media coverage.
“Upon being confronted with verifiable facts disproving these allegations by my Media Aide, the said individual withdrew the claims, issued an apology, and subsequently published content acknowledging and commending my activities and contributions,” the lawmaker stated.
“Thereafter, the individual sought personal engagement with me, during which his conduct and communications strongly suggested an attempt to obtain financial inducement in exchange for favourable media coverage.”
He said he made it clear that he would not submit to intimidation, blackmail, harassment, or extortion, adding that following his refusal, the operator allegedly resumed hostile and defamatory broadcasts against him.
The lawmaker further alleged that on or about January 23, 2026, the operator made a broadcast calling on his political party not to nominate him, while making what he described as unfounded and misleading allegations against his character and public conduct.
“I made it unequivocally clear that I would not submit myself to intimidation, blackmail, harassment, inducement, or any form of extortion.
“Following my refusal to subject myself to his intimidation, harassment, and extortion, the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece resumed hostile and defamatory publications against my person.
“Most recently, on or about 23rd January, 2026, the said individual made a broadcast calling on my political party not to nominate me, while making unfounded and misleading allegations against my character and public conduct.
“These publications were deliberately calculated to damage my reputation, incite public hostility, and heighten political tension within the constituency.”
Paul warned that the continued dissemination of the publications has heightened political tension within the constituency, noting that some of his supporters, angered by the broadcasts, had expressed intentions to confront the individual.
“The continued dissemination of these malicious publications has created palpable tension within the constituency.”
He said he had personally intervened to restrain them in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Stating that his petition was submitted in good faith and in respect for the rule of law, the lawmaker disclosed that he provided the police with digital evidence, including video recordings of the broadcasts, in support of his claims.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force to invite and interrogate the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece, investigate the alleged malicious publications, blackmail, and attempted extortion, and take preventive measures to forestall any act capable of causing a breach of peace in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency.
“I approach the Nigeria Police Force in good faith and with utmost respect for the rule of law, with the sole aim of preventing self-help, violence, or escalation of the situation,” he stated.
“I have preserved and in support of this petition, submitted digital evidence, including video broadcasts made by the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece.”
The lawmaker demanded that the police, “Invite and interrogate the operator of Ajegunle Mouthpiece in respect of the allegations of blackmail, malicious publication, and attempted extortion.
“Investigate the publications and broadcasts with a view to determining criminal liability under applicable laws.
“Take preventive measures to forestall any act capable of causing a breach of peace within Ajeromi- felodun Federal Constituency, and take any other steps deemed necessary in the interest of justice and public safety."
