Lagos residents in parts of the metropolis have been warned of an imminent disruption in water supply following an announcement by the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC).

The temporary shutdown is to allow critical repairs and replacement works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.

In a statement posted on its website on Tuesday, LWC said the disruption will affect several areas, including Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island.

The corporation said the shutdown is necessary to fix a leakage on the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline located at the Akute Intake Station.

LWC explained that persistent water discharge from the leak has saturated the surrounding soil, compromising ground stability and creating safety risks for heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators.

“The continuous leakage has reportedly affected ongoing construction of the Adiyan Phase II project,” the statement read.

LWC assured Lagos residents that all efforts are being intensified to complete the repair work as quickly as possible, promising that water supply will be restored once the works are completed.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are now bracing for the disruption, which comes amid ongoing infrastructural challenges in the city that frequently leave water supply unreliable.
