The decisions were taken at the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).

The decisions were taken at the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

At the meeting, chaired by DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), the Commission ratified the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Until his elevation, Adegboye served as the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The PSC also approved the promotion of Commissioners of Police, Danjuma Aboki, and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

According to the Commission, their elevations followed a “rigorous and merit-based process,” which included written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.

In what it described as a landmark decision, the Commission further approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II.

The promotions were based on the officers’ performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.

DIG Funsho Adegboye has served in several strategic departments of the Nigeria Police Force, including Operations, Training, and Administration.

His previous command positions include Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide (FCID), Force Intelligence Department, and Edo State Command. He has also served on United Nations Missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.

Newly promoted AIG Danjuma Aboki was, until his elevation, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command.

AIG Dansabo Idi previously served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

His career includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, and assignments at the Force CID Abuja.

He has also served as Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe, and Kosoboso; Commander of the 63 PMF Ikorodu, Lagos; Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Zone 1 Lagos; Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna; and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters.

While congratulating the promoted officers, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd) reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and meritocracy.

He said, “The Commission is dedicated to recognising hard work, dedication, and competence. These promotions are a testament to that commitment.”

He added that the new ranks should be seen as “a call to greater service, higher responsibility, and redoubled dedication to the safety and security of our nation.”

The Chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), and other Board members for their diligence during the examination and interview processes.

The Commission said it remains focused on its mandate of ensuring a professional, efficient, and service-driven Nigeria Police Force.
