Emergency responders from LASTMA’s Rescue and Recovery Team were immediately deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations, manage traffic, and clear the roadway.
A fully loaded 40-foot containerized truck overturned around midnight on Sunday at Oke Gbegun along the Ishagamu Road, near the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) in Ikorodu, following a brake failure.
According to an incident report shared by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on X, the accident left the driver trapped inside the tractor head of the truck.
“At about midnight, a fully loaded 40-foot containerized truck experienced brake failure and overturned at Oke Gbegun along the Ishagamu Road,” it said.
“The driver was reportedly trapped inside the tractor head following the accident.”
Emergency responders from LASTMA’s Rescue and Recovery Team were immediately deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations, manage traffic, and clear the roadway.
A Super Metro 002 high-capacity recovery truck was mobilized, and rescue and recovery efforts commenced without delay.
The accident partially blocked the road, prompting traffic diversions to ease vehicular movement in the area.
In a subsequent update, LASTMA confirmed that the driver was successfully rescued alive. Recovery operations led to the removal of the flatbed truck, while the container box was dragged off the roadway, restoring movement on two lanes.
However, authorities noted that a crane is still required to completely remove the container box from the road. Traffic management measures remain in place as recovery operations continue.
LASTMA said further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
