Nigerian Police Confirm Violent Invasion, Vandalisation Of ADC Party Secretariat In Benin City

The police said it received a distress call through the Control Room in Benin reporting that suspected hoodlums had invaded the ADC secretariat and were vandalising properties within the premises.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed an incident of thuggery invasion and malicious damage at the African Democratic Party (ADC) State Secretariat in Benin City. 

According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the incident occurred at about 8:55pm on Wednesday. 

The police said it received a distress call through the Control Room in Benin reporting that suspected hoodlums had invaded the ADC secretariat and were vandalising properties within the premises.

“The Edo State Police Command has confirmed an incident of malicious damage, thuggery at the African Democratic Party (ADC) State Secretariat in Benin City,” the statement read, adding that Police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy.

 

Ikoedem stated, “Preliminary assessment revealed malicious damage to flags and two shattered windows in the premises.”

 

The police spokesperson said that security personnel have since been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the act.

The police also commended the prompt distress call made to its Control Room, noting that it helped to quickly contain the situation. 

The Command encouraged members of the public to always report emergencies through the Command’s dedicated lines.

Meanwhile, it warned miscreants across the state against engaging in such acts, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
