According to Atiku, both families are currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser hajj (Umrah).
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has met with the wife of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, in Saudi Arabia.
Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, revealing that he hosted the former First Lady, her daughter Hanan, and other members of the Buhari family during their visit.
According to Atiku, both families are currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser hajj (Umrah).
“I was honoured to host Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, her daughter Hanan, and other family members during their visit to me in Saudi Arabia,” Atiku wrote.
He added, “Like me, the former First Lady and her family are in the Kingdom on a lesser hajj.”
The Umrah pilgrimage is often undertaken by Muslims for spiritual reflection and prayers, particularly during periods of mourning and personal loss.
The visit is notable as it is Mrs Buhari’s first known trip to Saudi Arabia since the death of her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2025.
The meeting has since drawn public attention due to the high-profile political status of both Atiku and the Buhari family, although it was described as a private and cordial interaction centred on religious observance rather than politics.
Late President Buhari died in July 2025 and his remains were in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari’s body was flown to Katsina State from London aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials.
