Nollywood actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has accused Nigerian Police officers of violently assaulting him and robbing him of his possessions just days after he returned to the country from the United Kingdom.

In a distressing video posted on his Facebook page, the actor alleged that the incident occurred shortly after his arrival in Nigeria, leaving him physically injured and emotionally shaken.

“I came back from the UK six days ago, and I was attacked and beaten by some Nigerian police officers in Nigeria,” the actor said in the video, describing the encounter as harrowing and unexpected.

He alleged that the officers took his iPhone 16 Pro Max and also seized $1,200 belonging to his brother at a filling station in Ajah, Lagos State.

The incident reportedly involved officers from Area J Police Command.

The video shows the comedian with an injury to his left eye, blood having streamed down his cheek and dried. He questioned whether the attack had caused permanent damage to his eye.

Friends and well-wishers who reacted to the incident urged Lande to formally report it to the police at Area J.

“I came back from the UK 6 days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” he wrote on Facebook

Meanwhile, he was seen accompanied by friends to police station to report the incident

However, no official statement has yet been released by the Lagos State Police Command regarding the incident.

The posts have sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians expressing solidarity with the actor and condemning what they view as a broader pattern of police misconduct and abuse of authority.

Observers also highlighted longstanding grievances with law enforcement practices in the country, particularly in interactions with ordinary citizens and returning residents.

Yusuff Afolabi Ayoade wrote on Facebook, “I know them very well, thats how they doin every night they patrol from from elemoro to shoprite Sangotedo and rade people wey use leg walk, they stole my iphone last time while they stop my car for searching last year, people wey dey leave around awoyaya lakowe abijo to shoprite can tell you more about them..they are so wicked.”

"This is painful to read. Imagine coming back home and the same people meant to protect you end up beating you and robbing you. This is not normal and it’s not okay. If this can happen to a popular actor, what about regular Nigerians with no voice? We deserve better. The police must be held accountable. Silence won’t fix this," @OO1Xtasy stated on X.

For @UGSPECIAL, "Living in Nigeria is traumatizing! Sometimes when I want to travel with my car, I feel tensed or afraid... My papers are complete but at the sight of police, ẹ bẹ like sey I see thief. If I ever want to leave this country, it's because of police, kiilings and kidnappings. JEZZ!"
