The Lagos State Police Command has reacted to the alleged assault of Nollywood actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande.

Speaking on the development, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that the officers implicated in the incident have been arrested on Friday.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the Command for investigation. At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly.”

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Ijoba Lande accused Nigerian police officers of violently assaulting him and robbing him of his possessions just days after returning to the country from the United Kingdom.

In a distressing video shared on his Facebook page, the actor had alleged that the incident occurred shortly after his arrival in Nigeria, leaving him physically injured and emotionally shaken.

“I came back from the UK six days ago, and I was attacked and beaten by some Nigerian police officers in Nigeria,” the actor said in the video, describing the encounter as harrowing and unexpected.

He further alleged that the officers seized his iPhone 16 Pro Max and also took $1,200 belonging to his brother during the incident, which reportedly occurred at a filling station in Ajah, Lagos State.

The incident was said to involve officers attached to the Area J Police Command.

The video shows the comedian with an injury to his left eye, with blood visible on his cheek. He questioned whether the assault may have caused permanent damage to his eye.

Friends and well-wishers who reacted to the video urged Lande to formally report the incident to the police at Area J.

“I came back from the UK 6 days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” he wrote on Facebook.

The allegations have since sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians expressing solidarity with the actor and condemning what they describe as a recurring pattern of police misconduct and abuse of authority.

Observers also pointed to longstanding public grievances against law enforcement practices in the country, particularly in dealings with ordinary citizens and returning residents.
