Samuel Kanu-Uche, the outgoing Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, has declared in the name of God that any presidential candidate who will lead Nigeria into destruction and more suffering will never win the presidency in the 2023 general elections.
The cleric made the declaration while speaking in Benue State during the Methodist Church Conference, 2022.
Vanguard reports that Kanu-Uche, who however, explained that the church would not endorse any candidate said, “God, there are many people contesting to be president; you know them one by one. We as a Church, we are not endorsing anybody but we are endorsing your candidate.
“Let your candidate emerge. Whoever will lead Nigeria to destruction or more suffering will never win. But whoever will win and take care of Nigerians will win.”
SaharaReporters had on May 30 reported that Kanu-Uche and two other priests from the church regained their freedom from the captivity of kidnappers who earlier abducted them.
The abductors had earlier said they wanted a sum of N100million as ransom for their release.
It was not clear yet if the church paid all or part of the ransom to the abductors before the release of Kanu-Uche.
Recall that the Prelate, the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark and the Prelate’s Chaplain, were kidnapped while they were on their way from a programme in the council area.
The Secretary of the Conference, the Rt. Revd. (Dr.) Michael Akinwale, had confirmed the demand of ransom in a statement issued to newsmen and appealed to all parishioners to contribute their quota to raise the N100million ransom.
