Buhari Government Giving ‘Presidential Treatment’ To Bandits While Nnamdi Kanu Remains In Detention Over His Legitimate Right – Lawyer, Ejiofor

He lamented over the continued detention of IPOB leader in solitary confinement who merely called for a referendum in a legitimate exercise of his right to self-determination.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has faulted the Nigerian government for negotiating with the terrorists while it unleashes terror and mayhem on citizens exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to self-determination.

Ejiofor described the action as double standard aimed at making banditry and kidnapping a thriving business in Nigeria.

He stated this in a statement on Saturday while reacting to the statement made by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, on the release of seven abducted passengers of Kaduna-Abuja train attack.

He lamented over the continued detention of IPOB leader in solitary confinement who merely called for a referendum in a legitimate exercise of his right to self-determination.

The lawyer condemned the romance between the Muhammadu Buhari-led government and terrorists as a dangerous trend which would further undermine the fight against banditry in the country.

Ejiofor described Kanu as a prisoner of conscience who must be released unconditionally.

The statement read, “The Federal Government is still in its business of negotiating with, and settling terrorists, while the same government unleashes terror and mayhem on innocent citizens merely exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights to self-determination.

“According to Garba Shehu, the Presidential Spokesperson, the leader of the terrorists demanded that his pregnant wife should be released from captivity.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted from Kenya and extraordinarily renditioned because he called for a referendum, in a legitimate exercise of his right to self-determination, and he has been in solitary confinement for over a year now.

“Meanwhile, the Federal Government is dining with, and giving executive/presidential treatment to terrorists. Do you still wonder why kidnapping and "banditry" is a thriving business in Nigeria?”
