The reconciliation committee of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reassured that it is determined to reconcile the aggrieved Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

This comes a few hours after Governor Wike who has been at loggerheads with Atiku after the party’s presidential primary election in May, debunked a report that he instituted a legal suit against Atiku.

It was reported that Wike who came second during the presidential primary election and has failed to accept Atiku’s choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the running mate, dragged the party, Atiku and the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal to court, demanding that he be recognised as the party’s presidential candidate.

However, Governor Wike quickly debunked the alleged court suit saying “I don’t know the lawyers. Am I a kid to be filing a suit at this time? I had 14 days within which to file any suit. I didn’t, then is it two months after I will file a suit?

“Just a few days ago, they came up with the claim that I ordered my chief security officer to pull down PDP’s flag in my office. This is all propaganda. Some people are trying to use me to win the election.”

Reacting to the alleged court suit, the PDP reconciliation committee in a statement by Prof. Jerry Gana, who is a member of the party’s Board of Trustees and the reconciliation committee, said efforts are on to reconcile the two chieftains of the party.

Gana described the alleged court suit by Governor Wike as fake as Wike has long moved on to focus on matters of how best to ensure victory for the PDP in the 2023 general elections.

“Our attention has been drawn to some fake news, making it necessary to issue this firm statement.

“News in the media that Governor Nyesom Wike has commenced legal proceedings challenging the outcome of the 2022 PDP Presidential Primary, is totally false. We unequivocally state that Governor Nyesom Wike has NOT and will NOT challenge the outcome of the just concluded PDP Presidential Primaries in Court. He has long moved beyond such an action to focus on matters of how best to ensure victory for the PDP in the forthcoming elections.

“It has also been alleged that Governor Nyesom Wike instructed the removal of the ceremonial PDP flags and insignia from the Rivers State Government House and Governor’s Office. This again is totally false and misleading.  The Rivers State Governor never gave such instructions.

“It appears that some forces within and outside the Party are expressly opposed to the reconciliatory moves between His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nysome Wike. Such malicious efforts will surely fail, by the grace of God.

“Let me assure all party faithfuls and supporters that we are strongly determined to ensure the success of the current reconciliation process. Building a stronger and more united Peoples Democratic Party is our paramount priority as we move towards the 2023 general elections,” Gana stated.
