Tension In Imo State Community As Gunmen Kidnap Traditional Ruler

The kidnapped monarch is the traditional ruler of Isiala Umudi autonomous community in the state's Nkwerre Local Government Area.

There is panic in Owerri town over the kidnapping of Eze Jewel Ndenkwo, a famous traditional ruler in Imo state.

He was kidnapped in front of one of his businesses in Owerri, the state capital, around 7pm on Friday, Daily Trust reports.

The kidnapped monarch is the traditional ruler of Isiala Umudi autonomous community in the state's Nkwerre Local Government Area.

He reportedly owns a number of businesses, including Udekings Nigeria Limited.

He was allegedly kidnapped in front of his office at Tetlow, Owerri.

His kidnappers have yet to make contact with his family.

Although the police spokesperson, CSP Micheal Abattam, has yet to respond to message seeking his comment on the incident, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy has confirmed the incident, noting that the administration is working to reduce crime and criminality in the state.

SaharaReporters had reported several gunmen attacks in the state. Only in August, four policemen were killed when some gunmen invaded Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in the Oguta Local Government Area.

Part of the division buildings and vehicles, including the one belonging to the Divisional Police Officer were burnt by the attackers.

According to the sources, the gunmen came in a tipper vehicle and two sienna cars and invaded the police division.
