A group in the Northern region of Nigeria under the umbrella of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has called on presidential candidates for the 2023 general elections to rise up and condemn the killing of Northerners in the Southeast region of the country.

The NEF spokesperson, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who made the call on his Twitter page cautioned that any candidate asking for votes must condemn the killing of the Northern people in the Eastern region.

The presidential candidates include Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Baba-Ahmed described the targeting and killing of Northerners in the Southeast as dangerous, adding that such an action could worsen community relations in other parts of the country.

“Targeting and killing of Northerners, particularly in the South-East, should be condemned, and must stop.

“It is very dangerous because it could worsen community relations in other parts of the country.

“We need to hear clear and emphatic condemnations from those who want our votes,” he wrote.
