GLOBACOM headquarters sealed by EFCC

August 15, 2006
The clampdown on Nigeria’s second national carrier, GLOBACOM owned by Mike Adenuga continued today (Tuesday) with the sealing off of GLOBACOM headquarters by EFCC operatives.

Saharareporters was informed that GLOBACOM chairman and CEO, Mike Adenuga and his son Paddy fled before EFCC could get to their respective offices. They are reported to be in hiding. We could not confirm if they fled Nigeria.

However, we can confirm that Mike Adenuga’s recent troubles were directly linked to a multi-million dollar scam involving his bank, Equatorial Trust Bank in which the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) was deposited.

Mike Adenuga is accused of having used the money to buy an oil tank belonging to African Petroleum (AP) as it was being privatized amongst other dubious investment said to run into billions of naira. An EFCC source told Saharareporters that the probe is huge, saying that it has caught up with a lot of Nigerian big fishes within and without the government.

Apart from GLOBACOM, his bank ETB and oil company-CONOIL- was also visited by EFCC officials who carted away computers, files and arrested some staff members.
