The Kidnap of Hon. Nse Ntuen

February 23, 2009

Dear Editor,

THE KIDNAP OF HON. NSE NTUEN

He placed a two-paged advertisement in The Punch Friday February 20, 2009, only to be kidnapped two days after while cruising with his personal jeep car. Hon Nse Ntuen is the Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government of Akwa Ibom State - the home local government of the State Governor. In one the advertisements he signed as the Chairman of the Local Government and in the other he did as the Chairman of Akwa Ibom ALGON.

The advertisements were congratulating Governor Akpabio for being recipient of "Nehemiah Award" by a local African Church, for according to the kidnapped, rebuilding the 'broken walls of Akwa Ibom State'.  The second award was as the "Most Outstanding Governor for the South-South" by hardly read weekly newspaper, National Daily.

One's observation is that there was no need for that waste of tax-payers' fund in felicitating with the governor for unworthy awards.  What is Nehemiah Award? Edo Governor Oshinmole got awarded as the overall Governor of the Year, unlike Akpabio's which is for the South-South, by the same National Daily weekly, yet there was no celebrations by Oshionmole with tax-payers' fund.

It could be this reason that prompted the kidnappers. He was wasting public fund! Again, why must the Akwa Ibom State ALGON boss be from the same local government area as the governor? Now that he has been kidnapped, the State government sure would dole out public money to the kidnappers to secure his release just as it did with that incident that burnt the figures of the then Commissioner Dr. Chris Ekong. This is why people say that governments are encouraging the hoodlums in their activities and only shouts when criminals run against them.
