Presidency sources told Saharareporters that the electoral body has made it clear to several stakeholders that March 2011 remains the earliest feasible date for the agency to guarrantee free and fair elections in the country.

Last Sunday INEC openly demanded a shift in election date  from the January date it earlier advertised with fanfare in a communique issued after a retreat in Calabar.

Saharareporters could not confirm if the major stakeholders including the National Assembly, political parties and the presidency have accepted the new proposal. But our source said it is apparent that all parties concerned have agreed that a postponement is inevitable.
