Nigerian Court Nullifies Suspension Of Brawling House Of Rep. Members

A federal high court in Abuja presided over by Justice Adamu Bello has quashed the suspension of  11 members of the House of representatives.

A federal high court in Abuja presided over by Justice Adamu Bello has quashed the suspension of  11 members of the House of representatives.

The lawmakers were suspended in June after accusing Speaker Dimeji Bankole of grand theft involving ₦9 billion between 2008 and 2009.
The suspended lawmakers led by Dino Melaye headed to court to challenge their suspension from the house.

The suspended legislators are Dino Melaye, Ehiogie West Idahosa,Independence Ogunewe, Solomon Awhinawi, Austin Nwachukwu, Abbas Anas, Gbenga Oduwaiye, Kayode Amusan, Gbenga Onigbogi, Bitrus Kaze and Doris Uboh.

Austin Nwachukwu withdrew from the case after Bankole promised him "amnesty", whereas Doris Uboh used a different lawyer and one of the lawmakers,Ehiogie West Idahosa,  did not go to court as he opted to settle things diplomatically.

Messrs Femi Falana represented the victorious lawmakers while Wole Olanipekun SAN represented Speaker Bankole and the house.
