Facts have emerged on how suspected Fulani militia struck with sophisticated weapons in the troubled Zonkwa area of Southern Kaduna Northern Nigeria last night.

Pastor Nuhu Luka who spoke to SaharaReporters by telephone last night alleged that the gunmen were the same Fulani herdsmen that have troubled the area for some time now.

According to the pastor, in whose house the attack was carried out, “they came to the church thinking by then we will be holding service and with several people. But on getting to the church they realized that we have closed [and] from there they came to my house. On getting to the house they shot the first person that saw them, on hearing gunshots a female in the bathroom rushed and they immediately killed her too. When we screamed that Fulani have come again, they started running and in the process they shot another male who is now in Jos hospital.”

He continued: “Let the whole world see how these people have been attacking us in Zonkwa, they were the first people that first attacked us during election violence in April 2011. The first building burnt in Zonkwa was Fajumali Hotel, and the first 17 people that were killed were our own people but today they are waging propaganda that they were innocently attacked and killed.”

Immediately after the attack, angry youths of Zonkwa started combing the deep forest surrounding Zonkwa in search of the suspected gunmen but they were prevented from continuing by soldiers so as to avoid escalating the violence.
