Daring Daylight Kidnappings Strike Fear In Akwa Ibom

A businesswoman and her husband on their way to church Sunday were intercepted by gunmen who kidnapped the woman, Chinasa Ngokere, in a daring daylight abduction.

Mrs Ngokere, who hails from Imo state, runs De Clemcy Nig. Ltd, a small scale enterprise involved in water treatment and packaging in Eket. She was headed toward the church with her husband, Clement Ngokere, when the shocking incident occurred.

Family sources said that six gunmen waited for the couple at the entrance to their compound in Afaha Uqua area of Eket and descended them as soon as they stepped out.

 They abducted the woman despite strenuous resistance by the husband to save his wife.

 Mr Clement was reportedly overpowered and injured by the gunmen who sped off with their hostage in a waiting car to an unknown destination.

The state of insecurity in Akwa Ibom has again been brought to the fore as gunmen have kidnapped an entrepreneur Mrs Chinasa Ngokere in Eket, Akwa Ibom.

Police sources in Eket confirmed the incident and said that they were searching for the victim. The kidnappers have yet to establish contact with the family or make any demand for ransom.

In another development a 4 year old nursery school pupil of Royal Nursery and Primary School, Oron, stolen by kidnappers, was freed at the weekend.

 The victim, Rachel Antai, was freed after the parents paid N8 million as demanded by her abductors.
