In Mr. Uba's lawsuit, filed on his behalf by three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), Niyi Akintola, Okey Amaechi and Biodun Owonikoko, he contends that the $15 million cash was campaign funds raised for him by the Peoples Democratic Party to fund his gubernatorial campaign in Anambra state.
Mr. Uba's claim to the fund is based on an affidavit sworn to by Chibueke Achibogu. In the affidavit, Mr. Achibu asserts that the sum of $15 million was handed over to Mr. Uba on April 26 2007.
The lawsuit further claims that Mr. Uba handed the money to the EFCC to enable the anti-corruption agency to ascertain whether the cash came from legitimate means or was a proceed of a crime.
