Some officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission said they received a distress call, and that the Nigerian Navy had been notified because the FRSC is handicapped in navigating the waters. Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the incident but said that only three persons and the driver of one of the canoes were missing.
