Mr. Faggo’s alleged comment had prompted Bauchi State Commissioner of Justice Barrister Almustapha Suleiman Hassan to lodge a complaint before the State Criminal Investigation Department.  Police arraigned Faggo and charged him with injurious false hood and defamation against the administration of Governor Isa Yuguda.

Yesterday, Bauchi State Chief Magistrate Court number three officially discharged Mr. Faggo, a state Finance Ministry employee.

A letter terminating Mr. Faggo’s appointment and signed by one Ibrahim Shehu for the Head of Service of the State, said his appointment was terminated “because his services are no longer needed”.

In the case heard in the magistrate’s court, the prosecution accused Faggo of using his mobile telephone number to forward a message on his Facebook profile on Sept. 4, alleging that the state had paid for the wedding of the state governor’s son, which took place at the Azare area of the state on Sept. 8.

The state’s case against Faggo generated comments from over 500 people, including politicians, the Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, prompting the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to express interest in defending the accused person.

Gov. Isa Yuguda has been in hot water over his expenditures since he purchased a house as a graduation gift for the son who attended school in the UK. The house cost an estimated N255 million and is reported to be located along Lake Chad Crescent near rows of luxurious houses belonging to former and present governors.

The first son of Governor Isa Yuguda’s first wife has become the owner a luxurious house at Maitama, Abuja. The source of the monies used to purchase the house has come under question.

Counsel to the accused who is the Bauchi State chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Barrister Mohammed Alhassan faulted charges against the accused. According to him, the consent of the Director of Public Prosecution was not sought while as he said only the aggrieved person who is Governor Isa Yuguda has the right to complain about the matter not the state commissioner of Justice.
