They simply walked in and opened fire on unsuspecting customers, the BBC reported on its Hausa service, quoting a military spokesman.

Eye witnesses said the attackers not only wore military uniforms, but also drove a kind of vehicle used by the army.

In a response, the army swiftly denied involvement, saying, “You can get camouflage clothes from the market."

Army spokesman, Capt Salisu Ibrahim Mustapha told the AFP news agency, “The gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on customers, killing eight on the spot while two others died later as a result of the gunshot wounds they sustained."

Mustapha said nothing connected the army with the killings, pointing out that in the past, criminals have donned army uniforms to undertake nefarious activities.
