A security officer on the governor’s entourage told SaharaReporters that there was no blaring of a siren as usually happens whenever the governor travels in the state. Several security sources had told SaharaReporters yesterday that Governor Yero could not enter Southern Kaduna on Sunday as scheduled due to security reasons, specifically the tense atmosphere in the area following the killings.

SaharaReporters had disclosed that Mr. Yero had instead proceeded to Abuja on Sunday afternoon. He traveled from Abuja today, arriving in Southern Kaduna this morning through Kafanchan.

A member of the governor’s entourage said Mr. Yero met with bereaved relatives of those killed. “He presented financial assistance to the bereaved families as well as those in hospital,” said one source, stating he did not know much money was given. The source added that Mr. Yero instructed that the injured who were in the area’s rural hospital be transferred to a military hospital in Kaduna, close to Kaduna State Government House.

The governor’s spokesman, Ahmed Maiyaki, wrote a statement confirming that the governor visited the scene of the recent killings. Mr. Maiyaki stated that Governor Yero “has paid an on the spot visit to Aduwan Gida Village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area over the recent attack in the area. During the visit, Governor Yero visited bereaved families of victims of the attack which was carried out on Saturday night by yet to be identified gunmen.” The statement condemned the attack.

Mr. Yero’s spokesman added: “The Governor promised to ensure that those behind the attacks are arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Governor Yero also paid a condolence visit to the Agwam Bajju, Malam Nuhu Bature, at his palace where he reassured the traditional ruler on Government's commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the entire people of the State. The Governor also visited victims of the attack receiving treatment at St. Louis Hospital, Zonkwa where he directed that those with severe injuries should immediately be transferred to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna. Governor Yero also directed that Government should bear the cost of treatment for all the victims.

“While reiterating his administration's commitment to genuine peaceful coexistence in Kaduna State, Governor Yero vowed to deal decisively with any person or group found attempting to breach security in the State. He appealed [to] the people to remain calm as Government will leave no stone unturned in its efforts at bringing perpetrators of the Aduwan Gida and all other such attacks to book within the shortest possible time.”
