Community Youths Round Up Two Suspected Cultists Over Attack On Female NYSC member in Bayelsa

A Bayelsa Special Security Task Force known as 'Operation Doo Akpor' has claimed credit for the arrest of members of a two-man gang for the ghastly attack on a 26-year old corps member, Folakemi Akinbode.

A Bayelsa Special Security Task Force known as 'Operation Doo Akpor' has claimed credit for the arrest of members of a two-man gang for the ghastly attack on a 26-year old corps member, Folakemi Akinbode.

Sources say, however, that the feat was actually achieved by youths from the community who immediately raised a search party that went after the suspected cultists.

Curiously, in an effort to portray the state in good light, ‘Operation Doo Akpor’ on Thursday announced the arrest of two suspects, Weri Malua and Ebi West Jato, but insisted they are not cultists.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security matters, Col. Bernard Kenebai (Rtd), claimed the operatives received a tip off which led to the arrests.

As we reported yesterday, Ms. Akinbode’s right hand was almost severed by the hoodlums during the attack on Tuesday while she was returning from the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Oloibiri; her place of primary assignment.

It was gathered that the assailants had earlier gone to the hospital to donate blood, following which they were paid an undisclosed amount by the hospital management through Akinbode.

But after they collected their money, they waylaid the corps member and attacked her with a machete.

A youth leader in the area told SaharaReporters on Thursday that the youths recovered two mobile phones, a Blackberry and Nokia, belonging to the corps member.

"We have handed over the two suspects to the Police while our boys remain on the lookout for other suspected cultists who have been terrorising this community,” a youth leader said.

“We are however worried that rather than put the records straight, the government has concluded that the suspects are not cultists, and gave the credit for the arrest to Doo Akpoo."
