In what appeared like a premeditated agenda to end male chauvinism and domination of politics, women in Kano today overwhelmingly attended the congress of the National Conscience Party (NCP) held at the Aminu Kano’s home otherwise known as "Mubayya House"in Gwammaja, Dalla Local Government area in Kano State.

The women, who outnumbered the men, also had their children with them and all stayed until the end of the congress to elect and ensure women took significant position within the party hierarchy. During voting by party delegates, the women stood solidly behind female candidates and as well persuaded some men to vote for the female candidates. The women insisted it was time, with their children, to play active roles in the political activities of the State. In the end, about eight women defeated their male opponents to win elective positions in the party.

The party chairman, Mr. Yunusa Tanko while swearing the newly elected party executives, expressed surprise at the women’s turn out.

“It is for the sake of our children, our tomorrow. We can be no longer wait,"  one of the women said.
