The redeployment of 13 of the commissioners had earlier been announced by the Police Service Commission (PSC) chairman, Mike Okiro.

According to a statement by police spokesman Frank Mba, “The posting is part of strategic efforts to reposition the Force for improved efficiency and better service delivery.”

He said the IGP enjoined the affected Police Chiefs to step up the fight against all forms of criminality in the country and ensure sustained improvement of public safety in all facets of Nigeria’s national life, and appealed to Nigerians to support the new Police Commissioners and their lieutenants.

It is to be noted that while Nigerians from all walks of life have for many months appealed for the redeployment of the controversial Mbu Joseph Mbu from command of the police in Rivers State, it only finally came to pass today through a statement by the PSC.

It is unclear why there seems to be division at the highest levels of the police.
