Benson was abducted by gunmen on August 4 from his residence in Korokorosei community, in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

A security source said Benson was picked up at the southern end of their village, on the fringe of the Atlantic Ocean, where he was abandoned by his abductors.

It would be recalled that a gang of kidnappers had on May 30, 2014, in the same community, taken hostage of the Speaker's mother-in-law, Ogboro Orumo, 86, releasing her after three weeks.

Also, the Speaker's mother, Betinah Benson, was a victim in January 2013, after a gang of armed bandits abducted her from the same family residence.

Confirming the release of his younger brother on Friday, the Speaker said the family employed the service of some ex-military leaders to facilitate the victim's freedom. He also denied claims ithat an undisclosed ransom was paid to secure the release of his brother.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hilary Opara, confirmed that Benson had been freed but provided no further details.
