A trio of Liberian doctors who were infected with the Ebola virus have drastically improved, since they began taking the experimental drug ZMapp on Thursday of last week.

This news is a positive development which arrives the same day as the World Health Organization (WHO) disclosed that 1,229 have died from this outbreak of the rapidly-spreading virus. Over 2,000 cases have been reported.

Liberia's minister of information, Lewis Brown, said the limited number of ZMapp doses the country received were given to one Nigerian and two Liberian doctors, all people who were involved in caring for sick patients.

The experimental treatment, developed by a US-based lab, was first administered to two US health workers.

While it has proved successful in these instances, it has not been 100% effective. A Spanish priest died of the disease earlier this month after taking ZMapp.
