An electric generator serving the government owned Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) in Akure has killed Mr. Rotimi Fagbemi, a staff in the engineering department of the broadcasting station.
The incident happened over the weekend and forced management to shut down broadcast transmission, thereby going off the air.
Sources in the Station informed SaharaReporters that Mr. Fagbemi was killed as a result of the explosion from the generator after he had carried out repair work on a faulty part.
Our correspondent gathered that Mr. Fagbemi’s body was mutilated during the explosion.
The faulty generator had been serving the radio and television arm of the broadcast station for the past one-year, a staff told our correspondent.
The staff also added “We have repeatedly complained of the obsolete state of the generator and other equipments in the station”.
Many staff and colleagues of the deceased were besieged the broadcast station at Orita Obele, along ijare road in Akure wailing and accusing the management, mostly the Director General of the station of cruelty over the plight of workers and equipment used in the station.
They also took a swipe at the embattled governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko and his Information Commissioner, Kayode Akinmade describing both as failed leaders for not fulfilling promises to overhaul the station.
It would be recalled that some union leaders in the station who called for a change and protested over the situation in the station got punished and victimized for daring to expose the rot at the media outfit.
