The development follows reports that Tambuwal attended a meeting today of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto.

According to the source, Tambuwal is well-positioned to succeed Wamakko.  He is described as having been quietly contributing to the strengthening of APC in the State, and in constant contact with top guns of the party at the national level.

The source added that Tambuwal sent a powerful delegation to the Kaduna meeting of the APC  last weekend where General Muhammadu Buhari and former vice president Atiku Abubakar and governors of the party in the North met and agreed to cooperate to overpower the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region.

The source said, "I can confirm that the Speaker will soon officially dump PDP and as well commence pursuing his governorship ambition to be governor of Sokoto state.

"He has the blessings and total support of [Wamakko] and all that matter in the politics [of the area] have been consulted. He will run against the deputy governor who refused to join APC but stayed back in the PDP."
