In a statement issued on its website the health ministry claimed that it was prepared to handle the transmission of Ebola across its borders and that individuals who had come into contact with the two year old had been “identified and supported to the standard required.”

The unnamed two-year-old Malian girl is said to have travelled from Kissidougou, Guinea along with relatives who brought her back to Mali after her mother died in Guinea.

Mali, which has a very poor health care system has previously been identified by the World Health Organization as being amongst the most likely countries to witness Ebola transmission.
