December 10, 2014

The aspirants alleged that the list of the delegates that should have voted at the primaries was not shown to them, adding that none of the three aspirants were informed of the venue, time and necessary arrangements prior to the election.

Dr. Yerima Ngama Lawan, a former Minister of State for Finance and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Yobe State, has along with two other aspirants rejected the results of the gubernatorial primary of the party, saying the process was manipulated to suit a particular candidate.

The election, which was held at Legacy House in Abuja on Tuesday, produced a former Minister of Police Affairs and two-time PDP governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, as winner.

Yerima, Ibrahim Talba, and Hassan Kafayos Hussein, in a collective statement, disassociated themselves from the results, alleging that the conduct of the election breached section 50 of the constitution of the PDP as well as the electoral guidelines of 2014 issued by the party.

The aspirants alleged that the list of the delegates that should have voted at the primaries was not shown to them, adding that none of the three aspirants were informed of the venue, time and necessary arrangements prior to the election.

"Out of the total of 670 delegates, only 21 participated in the purported primary elections,” they said.

"From the foregoing, it is clear that the whole process of the purported elections was manipulated for the purpose of achieving a pre-determined aim-i.e the emergence of a particular candidate. We therefore reject the elections and hereby urge our teaming supporters to be calm and law abiding," the jointly-signed statement said.
