Boko Haram on Thursday attacked Ngamudu village in Borno State, even as fierce battles are continuing between Nigeria troops and the violent militants in some areas.

A security source said the militants arrived at about 6:30pm and opened fire indiscriminately on civilians, leading to scores of people being killed.

"We don't know the casualties figure because it is night and everyone is running for their dear lives but scores might have lost their lives," the source said.

Ngamudu is about 87 kilometres away from Maiduguri, and it is located in Kaga local government area.

It would be recalled that five days ago, two female bombers killed four persons in road side explosions, causing fear throughout the village

At least 68 persons were earlier reported to have been killed in another attack in Dambua Local Government area on Monday, with about 68 persons killed.   A fleeing villager told SaharaReporters the militants set the entire village on fire.
