A day after a section of an overhead pedestrian bridge collapsed in Kano, Kano State, killing seven people, another section of the bridge crashed this morning, nearly smashing a tricycle operator.
Eyewitnesses said the operator managed to escape death as the second part of the collapsed pedestrian bridge caved in the early hours of Monday in an area 11 miles from the center of Kano, the capital of Kano State.
A day before, the first part of the pedestrian bridge had toppled, killing seven people.

The bridge was under construction in the densely populated Dorayi Quarters along Bayero University Kano (BUK) Road in the Kumbotso local government area of Kano State.
In an interview, Musa Magaji Majia, an assistant superintendent of police with the Kano State police command, confirmed this morning’s incident.
The police had earlier confirmed that a major part of the pedestrian bridge collapsed on Sunday and killed seven persons at Dorayi Quarters, a busy section in Kano metropolis.
In yesterday’s incident, a section of the bridge, which was still under construction, collapsed on a taxicab. Mr. Majia said on Sunday night that the incident occurred while the workers of the bridge were at the site.
According to him, the construction workers had warned motorists not to pass underneath the bridge since it was still under construction, adding that the driver of the taxi ignored the warning.
The police spokesman said yesterday’s collapse of the bridge claimed seven lives. He disclosed that the police had commenced investigation into the cause of the incident.
