Fire Destroys Computer Village In Maiduguri

SaharaReporters correspondent was told by traders that no one knew the cause of the fire. “It was the soldiers stationed near the market who helped us, if not the fire would have burned down the whole market,” another trader said.

A fire has destroyed part of a popularly known Computer Village Market of Maiduguri. Early estimates of the damage are in the hundreds of millions of Naira, according to a state owned broadcast station in Maiduguri.

According to market traders, the fire incident occurred on Friday night and lasted until early morning on Saturday. More than a dozen shops, stocked of laptops, phones, accessories, as well as other electronics were destroyed.

''The mysterious fire started at midnight no one could come quench it before the daybreak. It has caused us havoc,'' said Audu Marte.

Mr. Marte added “it was the soldiers who noticed a strange flames from within the market, and immediately alerted the fire brigade officials.”

A victim Saleh Bukar said, “I could not control my emotions this morning when got the market I saw my shop gutted by fire it was so painful, I have eight people in my house that solely rely on me. I am so confused.''
