Ribadu Lectures PDP Members On Being Effective Opposition

Ribadu encouraged the PDP lawmakers to lead reforms in the National Assembly that exposures pay cuts and raises as well as the fiscal misdemeanor by members.

Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has positioned himself as counselor members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) necessary conduct that will make them successful opposition members in the National Assembly. 

Ribadu encouraged the PDP lawmakers to lead reforms in the National Assembly that exposures pay cuts and raises as well as the fiscal misdemeanor by members. 

At a recent retreat for members of the National Assembly elected under the PDP, Ribadu said, "My first charge of you, therefore, is to urge you to be champions of probity in the workings of the National Assembly itself, as well as in the Executive Legislature relation. If Nigerians do not know how much monies earmarked for the National Assembly are spent, or how much money a legislator earns, they will not support you casting any stone elsewhere."

"The first step is therefore is to open up the National Assembly — ensure transparency and respect for the taxpayer. Public office is what it is — Public.”

"Also at this critical time of austerity in national earning, be the champions of cut in recurrent cost by slashing your own budgets...You must demonstrate personal will and commitment to be above board if you really want to checkmate others." 

He urged PDP members to lead through action and example. 

"Your patriotism and honest contributions as members of the National Assembly will go a long way in reinventing our party and prepare it for a successful comeback in subsequent elections." 

Ribadu thinks that internal reforms in the National Assembly will help give legislators the fervor they need to carry out the job of legislation.
